Boos & You Lose!

A special treat for you guys this week, as my good friend and fellow fighter George Groves steps up to the plate and guest blogs ahead of his crunch British and Commonwealth title clash with James Degale this Saturday (May 21) night at the O2 Arena, London.

Thanks to 'The Saint' George and Sky Sports for hooking me up with these blogs.

By George Groves: Here we are, fight week! I woke this morning a little sad. Usually with a week to go I am just buzzing; the hard, physical gym work is almost over and I can now enjoy myself in the next few days. Except this time round I will be a twiddling my thumbs just a bit.

I am lighter now than I was the night before the Kenny Anderson fight. Not one session during this camp has been geared towards losing weight. So I have been able to attend training full of carbohydrates. Usually the tedious, monotonous chore of weight management is the final struggle. Not this time though - my weight has been so good because I started camp with such a solid base.

Carbohydrates will be what I need for tonight's session. Monday of fight week is always the most taxing of all. In the past I have dreaded it, but today I can't wait. I have put so much mileage in this time round the thought of a long night of work just doesn't faze me. Just like when the fight with the infamous James DeFail was made.

I am really enjoying Jim McDonnell's last-ditch attempts to put me off my rhythm or unsettle my camp. James became rapidly repetitive once we heard the following Shakespearean lines of 'lived in my shadow, got no defence' and 'Ugly Boy's getting knocked out'. Jim, on the other hand, has taken it one step further. He is obsessed with my sparring, claims to have spies all over the world giving him the low-down on me.

I showed up to a press conference with a black eye and he almost took it personally, openly said he would have cancelled the presser if it were his man. This only confirms to me their pretty-boy attitude. Jim needs to realise that the reason his man doesn't have a mark on his face might have something to do with the fact he spars with a full-face crash helmet headguard.

I have one, though I choose not to use it because it makes you lazy. You finish a spar, no marks on your face and believe you never got hit. Take a look at DeFail's last outing where he got consistently tagged but that French waiter.

The problem is, this is a huge fight for James DeFail. I am the Brit who he can't beat. I am superior in an array of areas and will prove this on Saturday. My only concern is DeFail ends up reverting to type and bitches out and stinks the gaff out with his negative style.

He is not worried about being booed. He's been there before. He was booed during his golden hour as he won and collected his gold medal.

Fingers crossed Jim McDonnell and James DeFail back up their words or this time next week Frank Warren will be flogging a dead horse!

Thanks for reading

George
