Stone Island sponsor the 'Doctor'

Italian sportswear brand, Stone Island has announced its decision to sponsor Giorgio Petrosyan, the Italian martial arts athlete.

Petrosyan was the winner of K1 World Max 2009 and 2010, and is the only athlete in the world to have won the world title twice in a row. He is known as ‘The Doctor’ owing to his surgical precision in combat.

At thirteen Petrosyan’s family fled Armenia due to political problems. Arriving in Italy, his refugee status prevented Petrosyan and his family from working or attending school, until a local organisation supported them whilst they awaited a residence permit. In spite of his difficult start, Petrosyan held on to his dreams, of following in the footsteps of his idols Bruce Lee and Jean Claude van Damme.

Inspired by his background, Stone Island will sponsor Petrosyan throughout 2011, providing him with custom-made boxing clothing and following him across all of his worldwide matches and press conferences. In addition, Petrosyan will front the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2011 print campaign alongside his brother Armen, another kickboxing champion.
