SEEING STARS

The new Stars Gym in Battersea, South London is not your average Joe gym. Unlike many London gyms where the aim is to get as many members in the door as possible and then leave you to your own devices, Stars Gym prides itself on actively helping every member and visitor to achieve their goals.

What makes Stars Gym unique however is its strong focus on martial arts training. The benefits of martial arts are limitless; as well as improving your fitness in terms of balance, co-ordination and strength, there are no machines required so no more waiting around.

The massive range of martial arts on offer include Muay Thai, boxing, MMA (mixed martial arts), Jiu Jitsu, Shen Chi Do and Judo, and if those terms means very little to you, the highly experienced and practicing world champion trainers should be able to explain a little more.

The trainers include Judo practitioners Johnathon Purssey and Alex Farbon, who will be competing in the 2012 Olympics, Muay Thai Champion Mati Parks and current female world champion Alexis Rufus. Although this impressive list of credentials may suggest that Stars Gym is an exclusive establishment for international sporting talent, there is no sign of sporty snobbery. If losing a few pounds is the goal then it seems that this place will take a genuine interest in helping you shift it.

Despite the drive and ambitious mentality, which resonates around Stars Gym, they do have a sauna, so it can’t be all drive without a pitstop.
